Class II malocclusion is one of the most prevalent orthodontic anomalies, typically characterized by a retrusive mandible, a protrusive maxilla, or a combination of both. Management ranges across all age groups and requires careful spatial analysis and customization.

In Class II malocclusion, the most prevalent component is retrusive lower jaw, frequently driven by mandibular retrognathism. Managing these cases efficiently requires appliances that minimize reliance on patient compliance while achieving stable skeletal and dental changes.

The Class II corrector has to be preferably hybrid so as to have the combination of rigidity and flexibility to offer sufficient biological response along with ease of functionality to the mastication and other functions. This makes the growth modulation predictable for the clinician and comfortable for the patient. FORSUS Fatigue Resistant Device (FRD) is a hybrid, semi-rigid, telescoping functional appliance which satisfies the necessary requirements of a Class II corrector.

The FORSUS Fixed Functional Appliance serves as a highly reliable, compliance-independent tool for Class II correction. It successfully bridges the gap between complex removable appliances and invasive surgical interventions for a wide range of growing and late-adolescent patients.

Clinical data demonstrates that the Forsus appliance effectively corrects Class II discrepancies through a combination of dental and skeletal effects. Key outcomes include successful distal movement of the maxillary dentition, mesial migration of the mandibular dentition, modulation of mandibular growth and modest restriction of maxillary forward growth.

Dr. Ding-Han Wang is an Associate Professor at the College of Dentistry, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and Director of the Oral Medicine Innovation Center. He earned his Ph.D. in Dentistry (2017) and a Master’s in Biology and Anatomy (2012). His research focuses on the digital transformation of dentistry, specifically integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Extended Reality (XR) into clinical practice and education. Key areas of expertise include tissue engineering for TMJ arthritis and the bioinformatics analysis of oral microbiota. Dr. Wang is a prolific researcher with 40 PubMed-indexed publications and two Taiwan invention patents. His contributions are widely recognized, earning honors such as the IADR-Unilever Hatton Award and multiple Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards. Beyond his academic research, he serves in leadership roles for professional organizations, including the Taiwan Dental Sleep Medicine Academy and the Taiwan Academy of Craniomandibular Disorders, and collaborates internationally as a Visiting Associate Professor at Tohoku University.

This hands-on workshop presents a streamlined approach to integrating Digital Smile Design (DSD) into daily clinical practice utilizing an accessible, free web-based application. Participants will master the fundamental principles of facially driven esthetic planning while exploring how advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools can automate and accelerate the design workflow. The workshop’s content strongly emphasizes the practical duality of DSD, guiding clinicians in balancing precise diagnostic planning with compelling visual mock-ups to enhance patient case acceptance.

Attendees will review core traditional DSD principles, encompassing reference lines, dental proportion analysis, and facial landmarks. Moreover, the workshop highlights the rapidly expanding role of AI integration in dentistry. Participants will discover how automated tools eliminate tedious manual calibrations, optimizing workflows and rendering chairside smile simulations more efficient and predictable.

Transitioning to the interactive hands-on segment, practitioners will gain immediate practical experience navigating the web application to generate customized smile designs, circumventing the financial barriers of premium software. Ultimately, this course equips dental professionals with both the technical proficiency and communication competencies required to confidently implement modern, technology-driven esthetic planning into routine practice.

Dr. Hsuan Chen holds an exceptional interdisciplinary academic background, graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Electrical Engineering & Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto (2007), before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS, 2013), Master of Dental Science (MDS, 2016), and PhD in Dentistry (2026) from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. In terms of clinical experience, he served as a Graduate Resident Clinician at Taipei General Veteran’s Hospital (2014–2016), worked as a General Dentist at Sweetspace Dental Clinic (2015–2019), and subsequently held the role of Anterior Esthetics Head Clinician at YTTSD (formerly Sweetspace Dental Clinic) from 2020 to 2025. Currently, he serves as the Department Head of the Anterior Esthetics Department at YTTSD, while also working as the Primary Lecturer in Digital Esthetics at CEREC Asia, a Lecturer in Digital Dentistry at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and an International Speaker for Dentsply Sirona.
